What is this newly available LED light? What are it's benefits compared to the others like CFL & incandescent?
Recently in an electric store I saw an LED Light. How is this different from the regular lights?
I heard these have an unique feature of turning on when power goes off and have less power consumotion. Is this true?
LEDs themselves are not new. They have been around since the 1970s as status indicators in electronics.
In the middle late 1990s efficiencies and powers made them begin to be suitable for illumination, but only in red mostly.
It wasn't until the 2000s where they made blue/UV LEDs, which could have phosphors added to make a psuedo white light, and later phosphors to make more realistic white, and brighter, and a bit cheaper.
That is just the LED elements.
They can be made into "Bulbs" which can sometimes replace incandescent/fluorescent, but most often are not a suitable (lower lumenrs) or economical replacement (significant cost).
You can get emergency fixtures which can light on a power failure, but as a rule they are just drop in replacement for traditional lighting systems, and light only when external power is applied to them.
LEDs are becoming popular in flashlights and as backlights for LCD displays.
