in which the boom is extra long (i.e. extends past the mast), and is also used by the job?
In other words, the mainsail and the jib share the same boom. Thus, the jib stay and the jib tack are attached to the boom rather than the bow of the boat.
Most Catamarans have pretty standard rigs.
You are referring to a relatively rare set-up known as the AeroRig. It is gaining popularity but has only been around for about 10 years.
