Regular consumer camcorder with professional HDV camcorder features?
For those that don't know what I'm talking about, the professional hdv camcorders have features where you can blur out backgrounds to focus on one subject while filming, and since I cannot afford such high end equipment, I wanted to know if there is a regular $500-$1000 camcorder that may have these special features? If so, can any of you suggest some to me? Thanks
What you're describing isn't a "special feature" - it's aperture control. If the iris is wide open the depth of field is reduced. Ideally, as well as aperture control, you're looking for shutter speed control. If you haven't got either, try experimenting with neutral density filters - they'll reduce the amount of light falling on the sensor, so the iris will open up. You'll need to keep the camcorder very steady though as the shutter speed will probably change before the aperture - if you've got a sports mode on the camcorder try using that.
